This is the last week of my internship at design bureau This Way Up in Stockholm. After that I’m on my way to Sunne and Värmland again.
There are five more remaining weeks before I graduate after three years studying to become a Packaging Designer. So now I’m also looking for a job. Please let me know if you want to hire me or are up to any cooperation.
As a new member and admin of Vikunja Street Team it is my duty to promote the band. Why not do this via my website and blog. Vikunja are also close friends of mine so I’ll do this with pleasure. They are now in the middle of a launch and promotion after recorded an E.P with producer/songwriter Mats Valentin! Valentin who’s wide range, working with artists from Kelly Clarkson & Westlife to the danish elektropop/rock band Carpark North.
Later on this winter I’ll design a concept design of a cover to this E.P, I’d retouched and edited some photo’s taken by photographer Jesper Petersson. The picture on the right is a sneak peek of that. This is turning out great so look forward to see this in my portfolio later on.
Vikunja also toured with Roxette late last year and played both in Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm and in Malmö Arena. In other words an upcoming band with great ambitions.
Now are the new Ahlgrens Bilar box out in stores, that I layouted the graphics for at my previous workplacement at Smurfit Kappa Sweden. Nothing extra ordinary but I’m glad to se it out in almost every grocery store in this country!
One more thing!
At the beginning of this new year, Krönleins Bryggeri are also coming out with some new display boxes and shelf to held their sodas, beer and bottled water. Here I designed an Upper Case letter K, to promote Krönleins in a new interresting way. I almost act as an Art Director at a design agency, kind of, unusual as an intern at a corrugated board manufacturer. But a salesmen at Smurfit Kappa managed to pitch the idea for Krönleins and they liked it!
I’ll try to get a photo of this to post when I see those displays in store.
In november I’m moving to Stockholm to do my work placement for the third time, this is also the last one before my graduation in March 2012. This time I’m going to spend 4 months at THIS WAY UP, a design bureau in Stockholm. I really like the type of clients they work for.
I made a visit last week and I so liked the place and atmosphere there. This will be a very interesting and exciting time in my career and life.
Our school Broby Grafiska has partnered with Beckmans College of Design for a packaging project. I have worked with Arthur Röing Baer. This is his concept, I ‘m only behind some packaging structural design and engineering.
Interesting to see how students from this kind of well known design schools think. They are more like artists with odd ideas and different thinking, they are not so commercially oriented as I am. Personally I think you have to ensure both good marketing and aiming at the right target group to make great visual communication. In the end money does matter.
Think I’m gonna post what kind of music that inspires me when I work with graphic- and packaging design now and then from now on.
Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters new album Wasting Lights is streaming very often now on my MacBook Air, both Spotify and Youtube. The whole band and it’s members are so inspiring and talented people. They’re not hard core rockstars anymore like drummer Taylor Hawkins said in their new documentary, they are musicians. Drugs and no.7 are now considered stupid.
The new album is by far the most professional among theirs, it’s a must to take a listening. So many hits and all are recorded in Dave Grohl’s basement on tape, no digital editing has been made afterwards.
I really recommend the documentary as well, called Foo Fighters Back and Forth, that came out just recently. Everything about Nirvana and stuff. Also brand new material from the recording of the latest album, so go watch it!
As a designer I think my brain kind of work like the same as a musicians and songwriters do.
I went over to Denmark and Copenhagen today. Got in and visited SimplyChocolate in Illum Mall. My attention was drawn to their packagings, really love the design of them. Powerful yet simply.
This is one of those things I did at my recent Work Placement at Smurfit Kappa. I designed the layouts on a new box for Ahlgrens bilar, the customer approved my PDF and the box is now being mass-produced out in the factory. Where I’m now also going to do some weeks summer job.
There have not been much bloging lately. Spending my time at the fullest on my second Work Placement.
This time I’m at Smurfit Kappa Sweden, a packaging company outside Halmstad. I’ve spent 8 weeks at their design center, next 4 weeks with CAD and constructual design.
I’m also planning to spend my third Work Placement in Stockholm. 4 months living in the big Capital, looking forward to that! A bureau this time…
